Why are you writing a blog?

Well according to my extensive google searching - blogs are a great way to appear in searches and get people to look at your website! So thats probably the main reason. The other reason is to let people get to know me a bit better, so hopefully you can trust me to take great photos! When you book a photographer, you are putting a level of trust in them - trust that they will capture the moment when needed. Trust that they will know how to pose you/your products in a way that looks good and is a reflection of what you want to communicate. And in boudoir photography…you certainly need to trust your photographer!

So here we are. I’m writing a blog.

I figure this first post should be a bit about who I am and how Alison Amy Photography & Styling came about…

I won’t go all the way back to how I got my love of photography (looking at slide shows from my grandparent’s world travels) or how I got my design eye from my mum (who is always taking photos and crafting things for purpose and beauty). Instead I’ll take us to the much more recent past - I was living in America (that’s a whole other story) and had a wedding anniversary. I asked my husband to book a portrait session with a photographer in the mountains in fall - so we would get some of those classic Colorado fall photos that almost everyone I knew there would get. I honestly thought it would be a laugh and a good chance to experience it as apart from our wedding, we hadn’t really had professional photos taken of us!

That photoshoot was fun, and I’m so grateful for the photos, but it turned into so much more…

A few months later I was in the beginning stages of launching my own wedding planning company (still in America) and I contacted that photographer as she was one of the only people I knew in the wedding industry. Her name was Ashlee Crowden (www.ashleecrowdenphoto.com) We got along well, and a couple of weeks later I was helping her with a styled shoot! A styled shoot is where a group of vendors come together to showcase their services and the photographer gives everyone access to the gallery and it sometimes gets published and so on!

I loved planning and executing weddings also these styled shoots and my love for photography grew and grew! I got to plan more and more and work with Ashlee, creating beautiful memories and photos!

One day, Ash called pretty stressed because her assistant photographer had pulled out last minute for a wedding on the weekend. I was able to make myself available and took their place. And the rest is history as they say! I loved it, got my own gear and as we had already been working together so much, it seemed easy and natural and a new partnership was formed! Over the next years, we continued to work together - Ash teaching me about photography, and me helping her with design and business skills ~ until we actually officially launched a side company called AWA (www.awaexperience.com) - focussed on elevated elopements and portraits around the world! We even built a studio together in Ash’s garage so we could work no matter what the season or weather - making us some of the most reliable photographers in Denver!

Then in January 2025, tragedy struck for Ash & I… I moved back home to Australia. Its tough to be separated from each other, but we have still been able to do photoshoots - with Ash actually shooting and me on facetime and we can still travel the world and of course we will visit each other etc etc. BUT! That means that I am now on my own in Australia and need to launch my own business! So here we are… writing a blog about being a destination photographer and maybe a bit about life in the south coast of NSW.
